She coordinates and provides analytic support for the Department of Defense (DoD), the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), and the Center for the Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS) clinical research. Dr. Smith manages, reviews, and extracts data from existing military and civilian databases for research and quality improvement. She collaborates in presenting study results at professional meetings, publishing them in appropriate journals, and assists in the technical review of proposals submitted for funding.
Dr. Smith often receives accolades from her peers and U.S. Air Force leadership. Recently, one such compliment was submitted from the customer, Col Richard Speakman, “On behalf of the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, I am writing to express my sincere appreciation to the University of Cincinnati for a very prompt and diligent review of the Missile Community Cancer Study. From reviewing our methodology, validating study limitations, interpreting results, and eliciting a well-defined discussion, your expertise played a pivotal role. A thorough assessment and insightful recommendations proved instrumental in ensuring our efforts adhered to the rigorous standards of occupational and environmental exposure studies. Your responsiveness and willingness to collaborate have undoubtedly accelerated our progress, enhanced the quality of our findings, and demonstrated a commendable dedication to occupational health, public health, and scientific advancement.”
