03 Mission Success
Department of Defense
United States Air Force
Cape Fox performed a major renovation and construction project at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. At one mile long and 600,000 of interior square footage, this facility is one of the largest buildings in the DOD inventory. The facility is primarily open hangar bays used for aircraft component maintenance plus a large section of administrative and command offices, and all areas were fully occupied throughout the life of the project. The project was initiated in response to growing concerns regarding the inadequacy of existing and aged HVAC system. Additional interior renovation, electrical, and life safety (i.e., fire detection, suppression, and mass notification) elements were added to the scope.

Work for this effort included the development of comprehensive design packages submitted and coordinated with the customer for the approval of a complete chilled water system, replacement of an air handler unit, upgrades to existing air handlers, and replacement of new units and re-heat coil additions. In addition, Cape Fox performed all demolition of existing circuits, gas lines, air handlers, controls, and Insulation. We provided abatement services for existing piping, removed and replaced existing piping and insulation, and replaced with new piping and insulation. Cape Fox cleaned all existing duct work within the facility, installed new air handlers and structural steel to provide appropriate support for additional air handlers, control units, and insulation, upgraded the building Mechanical Room, performed necessary electrical upgrades to accommodate new air handlers and performed testing and balancing of the system upon installation, provided fire protection upgrades for all new and existing air handlers, and commissioned the completed installation in accordance with local ordinance/Air Force codes.
Our team provided exceptional schedule management for this project and was recognized by the Government for completing the Basis of Design earlier than the contractual timeline required.
