The Cape Fox Tinàa Award for Employee Excellence recognizes our Cape Fox employees who demonstrate dedication, performance, dependability, productivity, and a positive attitude. Sometimes, an employee stands out from the start. Their natural talent, pleasant personality, and commitment to the mission set their work apart and contribute to its exceptional quality. One such employee is being recognized. Sophie Traweek began her career with Cape Fox Facilities Services (CFFS) in the summer of 2025, filling in for another employee on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) contract while that employee was on leave. Sophie quickly demonstrated to the NIH team that she was an invaluable employee, dedicated to the mission and possessing an unequaled work ethic. Upon fulfilling this temporary role, she was rapidly offered her current position with Cape Fox Endeavor (CFE) on a contract supporting the NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH).
As of January 2026, Sophie works as a Clinical Research Coordinator for CFE. She provides administrative support to the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) staff during the execution of day-to-day functions, planning, and implementation of projects, including setting priorities, managing assigned tasks, managing conference room reservations, monitoring project status, reviewing deliverables, and providing status updates. Some of her other duties include preparing personnel appointments, renewal, and termination packages; preparing travel authorization and voucher reimbursement packages; coordinating and assisting with the submission of scientific publications; preparing credentialing packages for new clinical staff; and preparing re-certification packages for clinical staff due for renewal. She also maintains databases to track, analyze, and report on all activities, including professional activities, travel, and project management, among other key essential duties to her position.
Sophie has enjoyed her time and her work with NCCIH. She feels she is part of a mission to improve people’s health and well-being. In her support role, she feels connected to meaningful work and appreciates how collaborative and supportive the team is. When colleagues are passionate about what they do, they show a commitment to the work and to making a positive impact.
When recognizing Sophie, Program Manager Jeff Mark commented, “Sophie is a wonderful employee and possesses a skill set that few can match. Her dynamic personality and willingness to go ‘above and beyond’ make her a magnificent member of any team.”
Sophie has long supported mission-oriented work. Before joining NCCIH, she worked in Child Protective Services as a CPS Specialist II, conducting investigations and supporting children and families through difficult situations. Prior to that, she was a Domestic Violence Project Coordinator, providing case management, crisis support, and connecting clients to resources. Those experiences shaped her passion for helping others and continue to influence how she approaches her work.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and exploring new places. She also considers herself a foodie who enjoys discovering new cafés and trying different kinds of coffee. CFE is delighted to have Sophie as part of our team, propelling us toward success through hard work, dedication, and caring. Thank you, Sophie.
